The SAR&H Magazine was first published in September 1907. At that time, it was a joint publication of the three largest railway companies in South Africa, namely the Cape Government Railways, the Natal Government Railways and the Central South African Railways. These companies amalgamated to form the South African Railways (SAR) in 1910 when the Union of South Africa was formed. The operation of the South African harbours was transferred to the SAR in 1913 and the name changed to the SAR&H. The monthly magazine followed suit and changed its name at the same time. Publication continued every month until March 1967, when the format of the magazine changed considerably and the name changed to SASSAR. In total, 714 monthly issues of the SAR&H Magazine Collection were published. The number of pages published on this site is 125441. The digital collection is complete, with the exception of some of the front covers, back covers and commercial pages.
